Como is a city and comune in Lombardy, Italy. It is the administrative capital of the Province of Como. Its proximity to Lake Como and to the Alps has made Como a tourist destination and the city contains numerous works of art, churches, gardens, museums, theatres, parks and palaces: the Duomo (seat of Diocese of Como), the Basilica of Sant'Abbondio, the Villa Olmo, the public gardens with the Tempio Voltiano, the Teatro Sociale, the Broletto (the city's medieval town hall) and the 20th century Casa del Fascio. With 215,320 arrivals, in 2013 Como was the fourth most visited city in Lombardy after Milan, Bergamo and Brescia. Como was the birthplace of many historical figures; including the poet Caecilius mentioned by Catullus in the 1st century BCE, writers Pliny the Elder and the Younger, Pope Innocent XI, scientist Alessandro Volta, and Cosima Liszt, second wife of Richard Wagner and long-term director of the Bayreuth Festival.
The University of Insubria is an Italian university located in Como and Varese, with secondary locations in Busto Arsizio and Saronno. It was founded in 1998; it has been named after the area where it is situated, the historical-geographical region of Insubria. Polytechnic University of Milan is the largest technical university in Italy, with about 40,000 students. It offers undergraduate, graduate and higher education courses in engineering, architecture and design. Founded in 1863, it is the oldest university in Milan. There are many Healthcare conferences held in Como. There are many Medical conferences and meatings held in Como.
Pharmaceutical spending covers expenditure on prescription medicines and self-medication often referred to as over-the-counter products. It is measured as a share of total health spending, in USD per capita (using economy-wide PPPs) and as a share of GDP. Italy spends 17% of Healthcare spending as Pharmaceutical spending lagging world average by 2%.
Figure 1: Pharmaceutical Spending in Italy
Health spending accounted for 9.2% of GDP in Italy in 2012, very close to the average of 9.3% in other countries. Health spending as a share of GDP is much lower in Italy than in the United and in a number of European countries including the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Germany. The public sector is the main source of health funding in nearly all OECD countries. In Italy, 77% of health spending was funded by public sources in 2012, slightly more than the average of 72% in OECD countries. As in many other European countries, health spending in Italy has fallen in recent years, as part of government efforts to reduce budgetary deficits following the economic crisis. Preliminary estimates suggest that these reductions in health spending have continued at a rate of -3% in real terms in 2013.

The neuroscience Drug Market for all diseases will Increase $800 Million by 2016. Neuroscience industry demand was worth USD 24.09 Billion in 2013 and is expected to reach beyond USD 30.80 billion by 2020.

The Italian Association for Cancer Research has been committed to fostering cancer research in Italy, and has gradually expanded to include 17 Regional Committees and over 4.500.000 supporters. AIRC does is to raise funds and give out grants for cancer research. Fund are coming in two forms-50% through national and local events designed for the general public and the business community and 50% through letters requesting support.

The European Commission forecasts GDP growth for Italy of 1.1% in 2015 and 1.6% in 2016. The engineering plastics and other market size is projected to reach USD 97.2 Billion by 2020, registering a CAGR of 7.6%. In terms of value, the engineering plastics market size in automotive & transportation application is projected to reach USD 26.5 Billion by 2020, at a CAGR of 8.0% between 2015 and 2020.

The European interventional cardiology devices market was valued at $3.9 billion in 2013 and is expected to reach $6.1 billion by 2018, at a CAGR of 9% during the forecast period. The European interventional cardiology devices market is expected to have a slow growth. Various factors such as increasing peripheral intervention, momentous increase in the number of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) centers, and growth in aging population are the major drivers for the European market. On the other hand, the declining coronary angioplasty procedures and conventional first level medication treatment are considered as restraints for this market.
Figure 6: Cardiology device market
The European clinical chemistry market is growing due to the on-going developments in analytical laboratory automation, the swift progress in various fields of diagnosis such as point-of-care testing, molecular diagnosis, immunoassays, haematology, flow cytometry, and microbiology. Germany commanded the largest share (20%) at an estimated $652.8 million in 2013 and is expected to reach $853.3 million by 2018, at a CAGR of 5.8% from 2013 to 2018. The United States commanded the largest share (89%) of the North American clinical chemistry market at an estimated $3,852.7 million in 2013 and is expected to reach $5,370.5 million by 2019, at a CAGR of 7.2% from 2013 to 2018.

The Italian Immunology Sector has made huge improvements in the last few years, growing at rapid pace and currently generating an overall €16.3 ($23.9) billion in yearly revenues, of which €6.3 ($9.2) come from biotech sales. Government funding for Italy's universities has fallen by about €1 billion (13%) since 2009.
Figure 8: Funding for Immunology
Of Italy's total land area of 29.4 million ha (72.6 million acres), 10.9 million ha (26.9 million acres), or 37.1% of the land, were under annual or permanent crops in 1998. Small, individually owned farms predominate, with the majority three ha (7.4 acres) or less. In 2001, about 5% (1.4 million persons) of the economically active population was in the agricultural sector. Despite government efforts, the agricultural sector has shown little growth in recent decades. The imports of agricultural products increased from $19.6 billion in 1987 to $20.9 billion in 2001.

Health spending measures the final consumption of health care goods and services (i.e. current health expenditure) including personal health care (curative care, rehabilitative care, long-term care, ancillary services and medical goods) and collective services (prevention and public health services as well as health administration), but excluding spending on investments. Health spending accounted for 9.2% of GDP in Italy in 2012, very close to the average of 9.3% in OECD countries.
